Portal into Otago | Lindis Pass
Escaping from inclement weather at Mt Cook, Tom and I manoevered the campervan over the low saddle into Central Otago. As predicted, fresh snowfall closed the pass for a few days following, so we were lucky to strike beautiful light over Lindis Pass.
While there was wonderful tussock texture spotting the mountainscape, I struggled to see an obvious focal point. The answer was found in shooting during the daylight, when the scene was bathed in late afternoon light. Then shooting again at dusk when the sun kissed the horizon.
Later, in post, I fused both exposures together. The challenge was that the clouds constantly moved, and over a full hour, they sky had completely changed. So careful layer masking was necessary to merge the two shots seamlessly.
